Scissor questions
Practical answers before and after you buy.
These answers cover the questions Boss customers ask most often. If a pair has been dropped, damaged or no longer closes normally, stop using it and ask for an assessment.
How do I choose a length?
Begin with the length you already control comfortably. Shorter lengths can suit compact movement and detail; longer lengths can help with larger sections, scissor-over-comb and taking length. Your hand, technique and preferred balance matter more than a universal rule.
What does slicer mean in a Boss product name?
Boss uses slicer for scissors intended for professional cutting and slicing work. It is still a pair of scissors. Check the blade, length and handle information on the exact model rather than relying on the word alone.
Does a higher tooth count remove more hair?
Not necessarily. Tooth count is only one part of a thinner's design. Tooth spacing, groove shape, blade geometry, section size, hair type and technique all affect the result. Compare the exact models or ask Boss before changing tooth patterns.
Which handle is the most comfortable?
There is no universal answer. Fixed offset, crane and swivel handles change the position or movement of the thumb ring. Compare them through your normal cutting movement. Pain or injury needs advice from a qualified health professional, not a product recommendation.
Why are my scissors pushing or folding hair?
Possible causes include residue, unsuitable tension, a dull or damaged edge, misalignment or a problem at the pivot. Clean and inspect the pair first. If the behaviour remains, stop cutting and arrange professional assessment rather than forcing the close.
Why do the scissors feel rough or sound gritty?
Hair or product can collect around the pivot, but roughness can also indicate edge contact, damage or a pivot problem. Clean, dry and oil the pivot correctly. If the rough point remains, do not keep adjusting or forcing the scissors—book a service.
Why do the tips no longer meet correctly?
A drop, bent handle, missing bumper, loose pivot or alignment change can alter the tip relationship. Stop using the pair and have it assessed. Continuing to cut can increase damage or create an unsafe crossing action.
How tight should the tension be?
The correct setting lets the blades work together without feeling loose or forcing your hand. Mechanisms and edge types vary, so follow the maker's instructions and make only small adjustments with the correct tool. If the setting will not hold, arrange service.
How often should scissors be sharpened?
There is no single interval for every stylist. Workload, steel, edge, technique, tension and care all matter. Use changed cutting performance, visible damage or a professional inspection as the trigger rather than relying only on a calendar.
Can I disinfect my scissors?
Use your workplace's current infection-control procedure and a product that is approved for the task and compatible with the scissors. Clean first, follow the product label exactly and dry metal surfaces completely. Blood exposure requires the applicable workplace and public-health procedure before reuse.
What should I do after dropping them?
Close the scissors carefully and stop using them. Check for a nick, changed tip relationship, bent handle or rough close. Even when damage is not obvious, an assessment is sensible if the action has changed.
What if the finger rest or bumper is loose or missing?
Stop if a missing part allows the blades or handles to cross abnormally. Do not improvise a permanent repair with household adhesive. Ask Boss for the correct replacement part or service advice for the model.
Why have marks or corrosion appeared?
Moisture, product residue, damp storage and incompatible chemicals can affect stainless steel. Isolate the pair, avoid abrasive home repairs and ask for service advice if the surface or edge is affected.
What information should I send with a service question?
Include the model or SKU, length, a clear description of what changed, whether the scissors were dropped, and close photographs of the pivot, tips and any visible damage. Confirm price, turnaround and packing instructions before sending the pair.
